Marta Malowanczyk is a Berlin-based filmmaker born in Gdansk.

She escaped communist Poland as a young girl with her family (via Sweden) to Bremen, Germany. Later she studied Film & TV Directing, Graphic Design and New Media at the Academy of Art and Design Kassel.

A fire was lit as a teenager watching the tv series Twin Peaks, opening her eyes up to the possibilities of film. In 2002 she started her film production platform Nervous Pet Pictures with her first short films Über Rusbad (Super-8/16mm), Der Nachtportier and Fünf (Tomato Global Workshop 2003), having completed an internship at the renowned Camera Rental Studio Hamburg.

She graduated with honours with her feature film Marla, which was nominated for the first steps award 2007, the renowned German newcomer award for final degree student films. Marla was awarded international prizes such as the Golden Hercules at the Kassel Documentary Film & Video Festival 2007, the Independent Student Platinum Remi Award at the WorldFest Houston (USA) 2008, plus the seal of approval: Prädikat Wertvoll from the German Film & Media Review Institution Wiesbaden.

In 2007 Marta moved to her now beloved Berlin. Here she started as an assistant director and editor in different film and TV genres and formats. She continues her work as a director.

Currently, her work features in the mediaartbase.de archive of the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) Karlsruhe.

Marta is currently developing her debut feature film.
